Joe Dawson: Follow-Up on a Patient with a History of an IVC Thrombus
Joe Dawson, Ultrasound Educator Founder of Sonography by Joe ARDMS SPI and Vascular Study Resources, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Day in the Life in the Vascular Lab
Today’s case: follow-up on a patient with a history of an IVC thrombus.
After completing anticoagulation therapy, she returned for an IVC duplex to ensure.
- Patency of the IVC
- No residual or recurrent thrombus
- Normal flow within the iliac veins
This is where vascular ultrasound goes beyond diagnosis
it’s about confirming stability and ensuring treatment worked.
As sonographers, we’re not just capturing images…
we’re evaluating flow, comparing to prior studies, and thinking clinically every step of the way.
For students and new grads:
I dropped a registry-style question in the comments – go test yourself.”
