Mary Cushman: Remembering Dr. Russell Tracy and His Lasting Legacy in Science

Mary Cushman, University Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair at the University of  Vermont, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We lost my close friend and a giant in the field of cardiovascular research a few months ago, my mentor and colleague Dr. Russell Tracy.

His pioneering research set the stage for the current era of anti-inflammatory therapies to prevent or treat cardiovascular disease.

His interests were wide ranging, and he contributed in many other areas of science including HIV, COVID, frailty, physical activity effects on health, muscle function, and dementia.

He was an Idea Man.

He was central to my career success since he gave me my start and mentored me to scientific independence.

We miss him so much.

We held a Celebration of Life last week. If you missed the Livestream or the event, you can watch it here. Even if you didn’t know him you will learn a lot about life, academia, and science.

I know he touched countless lives in his continual striving to assist others in their research.

If you would like to support a fund honoring Russ here at UVM, DM me and I will connect you.”
