Uncovering the Mysteries Behind Rare Blood Disorders – Mass General Brigham Research

Mass General Brigham Research shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Ever wonder how many red blood cells your body produces in a single day, how rare blood disorders are discovered, and what it takes to treat them?

Meet David Sykes, MD, PhD, a physician-scientist at Mass General Brigham who’s dedicated to uncovering the mysteries behind rare conditions that affect how blood cells grow and function.

In 2011, Dr. Sykes identified a previously unknown disease now called TEMPI syndrome – a rare disorder that affects about 50 people worldwide.

His discovery has helped doctors around the globe recognize and manage this condition more effectively.

Beyond rare diseases, Dr. Sykes also studies acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow.”
