Mohamed F Doheim: Honored to Defend My PhD on Personalized Decision-Making in Acute Ischemic Stroke

Mohamed F Doheim, Assistant Professor in Neurology (Clinical Research), NIH StrokeNet Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:

”Yesterday, I had the distinct honor of defending my PhD thesis, ‘Beyond one-size-fits-all in acute ischemic stroke: from data-driven approaches to personalized clinical decision-making.’

Standing on the shoulders of giants, I feel profoundly humbled and utterly blessed to have reached this milestone, an achievement that is inextricably linked to the unparalleled stewardship of my mentors and promotors.

My path was made seamless by the extraordinary hospitality and support of Professor Wim van Zwam and his family, to whom I owe a deep debt of gratitude.

I am equally indebted to Professor Robert van Oostenbrugge for his sagacious advice at every critical juncture, and to Professor Raul G. Nogueira for his unwavering belief in my potential and for truly opening the world to me.

The defense itself was made all the more rewarding by the rigorous and enriching dialogue with the assessment committee, whose insights have already begun to shape my perspective on future clinical opportunities.

Beyond the academic sphere, this journey was sustained by the steadfast fellowship of Robrecht (Bob) Knapen, whose support before, during, and after has been invaluable and the wonderful Madelon Dijkstra.

Most importantly, I am profoundly grateful for the anchor provided by my wife, Emma, and my family and friends who supported me both in person and across digital borders.

As I embark on this next chapter, I remain committed to dismantling the barriers of conventional practice; let us move beyond the limitations of ‘one-size-fits-all’ and bridge the gap toward the personalized care every stroke patient deserves.”
