Nicola Carter: World Thrombosis Day Highlights Gender Specific Risks and Prevention

“October 13th is World Thrombosis Day and is also the month, 5 years ago, that my sister died suddenly from an avoidable Pulmonary Embolism caused by a DVT.
The 2026 campaign focus is on the unique blood clot risk factors which affect women during various stages of life.
Thrombosis (blood clot) is the leading underlying cause or cardiovascular events including heart attack and stroke.
Knowledge of the symptoms and how we can all reduce our risk factors is important but sadly most people and even some health care professionals lack awareness.
