Ronnie Hutcheon: The Risks of Incorrect Apixaban Dosing
Ronnie Hutcheon, Owner and Solicitor of R James Hutcheon Solicitors, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Apixaban is an anticoagulant used to prevent potentially dangerous blood clots.
It can be prescribed for conditions including atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
Because apixaban affects blood clotting, giving somebody an incorrect dose can potentially have serious consequences.
If you have suffered an injury because you were prescribed or dispensed the wrong dose of apixaban, you may be able to investigate a clinical negligence or pharmacy negligence claim.
What happens if you take too much apixaban?
The NHS specifically warns that taking an extra dose of apixaban can be dangerous and advises patients who have taken more than their prescribed dose to seek urgent advice.”
