Saneha Anjum Shaik: What Every Clinician Should Know Before Ordering Blood Tests
Saneha Anjum Shaik, Transfusion Medicine Specialist, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What every clinician friend of mine should know before ordering blood
Before requesting blood, ask yourself:
- Am I treating the patient or just the hemoglobin?
- Is transfusion truly indicated?
- Can I transfuse one unit and reassess?
- Have I communicated any special blood requirements to the blood bank?
- Is this the best use of a precious resource?
The right transfusion isn’t about giving more blood—it’s about giving the right blood, to the right patient, at the right time.
What’s the most important factor you consider before ordering blood?”
