Susan Noone: Donor Turned Recipient Shares Lifesaving Transfusion Story
Susan Noone, Executive Director at Vitalant, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The most meaningful moments in blood banking and transfusion medicine often come from hearing directly from those whose lives have been impacted.
At a recent staff meeting, we had the privilege of hearing from Billy McGee, who shared his personal story of surviving a motorcycle accident and the lifesaving blood transfusions that helped support his recovery. His heartfelt message of gratitude to our team served as a powerful reminder of the purpose behind every donor recruited, every blood drive coordinated, and every unit collected and delivered to hospital shelves.
Billy’s story is especially compelling because he has been a dedicated blood donor with his local IBEW chapter for many years, long before he became a blood recipient himself. We were also honored to welcome Adela, IBEW blood drive coordinator, and Evan, IBEW Business Manager and longtime friend of Billy’s.
Their partnership and commitment to supporting blood donation continue to help ensure patients have access to the blood they need when they need it most.
Thank you, Billy, for sharing your journey and inspiring our team. Stories like yours remind us that the work we do each day truly saves lives.”
