Tagreed Alkaltham։ You Think Eligibility Is About You… It’s Not
Tagreed Alkaltham, Transfusion Medicine Lab Supervisor at KSMC, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“You Think Eligibility Is About You… It’s Not.
It’s about the patient… waiting on the other side.
Someone you don’t know.
Someone you may never meet.
But someone whose life may depend on the blood you choose to give.
Before blood is given… a decision is made.
Not based on willingness alone…
But on safety.
Because in transfusion medicine, we don’t just collect blood.
We protect lives.
This is where eligibility begins
Not as a barrier…
But as a responsibility.
A system designed to ensure that every drop is safe, for the one who gives… and the one who receives.
Before donation… there is a quiet moment
Simple.
Silent.
But critical.
A moment where the system pauses… and asks the only question that matters:
Is this safe?
This is not about passing or failing.
It is about trust.
Being deferred… does not mean you are rejected.
It means the system is doing exactly what it was designed to do:
Protect the patient.
Eligibility is not about you… It never was.
It is about the life that will depend on your blood.
Because in the end, the safest blood… is the blood we carefully choose.”
