Tomas Holubec: A New Chapter in Cardiac Surgery in Nuremberg
Tomas Holubec, Head of Department of Cardiac Surgery and University Professor at Klinikum Nürnberg and PMU Nürnberg, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A new chapter in cardiac surgery in Nuremberg
Two weeks ago, I shared the launch of our clinical Ross program at Klinikum Nürnberg.
Today, we can say:
This new chapter has truly begun.
Last week, we successfully performed our first two Ross procedures on consecutive days:
- April 15 – A 36-year-old patient with recurrent aortic valve regurgitation after prior bicuspid valve repair, successfully treated with the Ross procedure.
- April 16 – A 42-year-old patient with a bicuspid aortic valve and severe stenosis, treated with a minimally invasive Ross procedure via upper ministernotomy.
Both patients had an uneventful postoperative course and were discharged on postoperative day 7.
These initial cases highlight the potential of the Ross procedure — a physiological solution with excellent hemodynamics and freedom from lifelong anticoagulation, particularly valuable in younger patients.
Such progress is only possible through true team effort — from preoperative planning to surgical execution and postoperative care.
Thank you to everyone involved!
We look forward to continuing to write this chapter.”
