Usman Waheed: Building Safer Blood Systems in Pakistan
Usman Waheed, Managing Editor of Journal of Islamabad Medical and Dental College, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“During the 39th Int’l Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), held in Malaysia, we organized a high-level consultative workshop to discuss the current status of blood safety systems in Pakistan, key challenges, and recommendations for future improvement.
The workshop brought together international experts and delegates from England, Cyprus, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, Lebanon, China, and Taiwan, along with representatives from the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and about 28 delegates from Pakistan.
The meeting also paid a heartfelt tribute to Jenny White for her outstanding leadership and dedicated service during her six-year tenure as Executive Director of ISBT.
The participants also extended a warm welcome to Dr. Karin van den Berg and expressed their confidence in her leadership for the future growth of the Society.
The workshop concluded with discussions on strengthening future collaboration between BBMT-Pakistan and ISBT, particularly in the areas of education, professional development, research, and capacity building.”
