Fernando Corrales-Medina on Heavy Periods in Teens: Don’t Miss a Bleeding Disorder

Fernando Corrales-Medina, Director of University of Miami-Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center, Miller School of Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:

”1 out of 5 teenage girls with heavy menstrual bleeding may have an undiagnosed bleeding disorder.

Too often, heavy periods in adolescents are normalized—leading to delayed diagnosis, anemia, missed school, and reduced quality of life.

One of the most common causes is von Willebrand disease (VWD).

VWDtest.com is a free, evidence-based online platform to help patients, families, and healthcare providers recognize when a bleeding disorder should be considered.

This is one of the projects I’m most passionate about, and I’m honored to work alongside global experts in VWD to promote awareness and earlier diagnosis worldwide.

Please share to help close the diagnosis gap.”
