Paul Bolaji: Strengthening Stroke Care in Africa Through Collaboration and Evidence
Paul Bolaji, Education Lead (Stroke Services) at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, shared on LinkedIn:
”What an enriching and thought-provoking session we had today on ‘Antiplatelet Therapy After Intracerebral Haemorrhage, Evidence, Timing and Clinical Challenges’
About 200 people registered for this ASO Webinar.
We are deeply grateful to Professor Rustam Al-Shahi Salman for delivering a masterclass in clarity, scientific rigour, and humility.
From RESTART to the ongoing ASPIRING trial, the discussion helped us move beyond fear-driven practice toward evidence-informed, patient-centred decision-making.
Great insight from the Prof Akinyemi the Founding Chair of ASO on Collaboration to do ASPIRING trial in Africa
For many of us practising in African settings where haemorrhagic stroke may account for up to 50% of all strokes this conversation was not theoretical. It was practical, urgent, and deeply relevant.
A sincere appreciation to:
- The African Stroke Organization (ASO) Education & Training Committee headed by Prof Foad Abd-Allah
- Our partners at the World Stroke Organization and World Stroke Academy
- ASO headed by Prof Owolabi
- The ASO Secretariat for seamless coordination headed by the tireless SirAd Adams
- Great moderation from Prof Vinod Patelwho anchored beautifully and other moderators like Mr Ochunor and set the tone for the day. Mr Muyiwa for the constant help
- And every clinician across the continent who continues to push stroke care forward despite resource constraints and was present.
This is how we strengthen stroke care in Africa, through collaboration, scholarship, and collective leadership.
The conversation does not end here.
The future of haemorrhagic stroke research must include African centres, given our significant burden.
Let us continue to build partnerships, contribute data, and shape global evidence together.
Thank you all for making this session impactful.”
