Adam Urato: Understanding SSRI Impacts on Maternal and Fetal Serotonin Levels
Adam Urato, Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician at MetroWest Medical Center, shared a post on X about a recent article by Amy L. Salisbury et al., published in Neuropsychopharmacology, adding:
“Remember, SSRIs have a profound chemical impact on a pregnant mom and her baby.
Platelet serotonin levels are dramatically lower for both and it’s likely there are similar effects in the brain, since SSRIs block the serotonin transporter (present in the brain and platelets).”
