Alyssa George: Anticoagulation Management During the Diagnostic Evaluation of HIT

Alyssa George, Clinical Pharmacist at Henry Ford Health, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis, adding:

“I’m excited to share that my PGY2 project on anticoagulation management during the diagnostic evaluation of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) has been published in the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis!

Our study examined anticoagulation prescribing practices before and after implementation of an on-demand rapid PF4 immunoassay, replacing a once-daily ELISA PF4 assay for suspected HIT cases.

Following implementation of the rapid assay, significantly fewer patients were transitioned to therapeutic non-heparin anticoagulation, with no difference in new or worsening thrombosis or bleeding events within 72 hours of testing.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such supportive mentors and colleagues throughout this project!”
