Bipasha Nandi Jui: The Surprising Role of Fat Inside Bone Marrow
Bipasha Nandi Jui, Doctoral student in the Department of Adipocyte Development and Nutrition at DIfE, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Current Opinion in Endocrine and Metabolic Research, adding:
“I’m happy to share that our review paper is now published!
In this review, we discuss the emerging role of bone marrow adipose tissue (BMAT) as an active component of the bone marrow microenvironment, with a particular focus on how it responds to obesity, nutritional stress, and altered energy availability.
We highlight how bone marrow adipocytes may influence hematopoietic stem cell function, hematopoiesis, skeletal homeostasis, and metabolic regulation, and discuss the remaining questions surrounding BMAT heterogeneity and its remodeling across different metabolic states.
It was a rewarding experience bringing together the rapidly evolving literature in this field and thinking about where the key questions lie for future research.
