Charlie Berman: Infections Following Mechanical Thrombectomy for Acute Stroke
Charlie Berman, Medical Student at The University of Manchester, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Cerebrovascular Diseases Extra, adding:
“I am pleased to have published my first paper in stroke medicine describing the occurrence of stroke-associated infection in patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy.
Mechanical thrombectomy has revolutionised treatment of acute ischaemic stroke in the UK since 2016.
As with any intervention, it is not without complications.
The procedural complications of Thrombectomy (intra-cerebral haemorrhage, failure to preserve penumbra) have been well documented, however medical complications in this population have been poorly described.
Writing this paper was a hugely rewarding learning experience, and I am very grateful for the help and support from the SAINT-MT team throughout the project.”
