Chiwoo Oh: AS01B Adjuvant and Long-Term Immune Reprogramming After Shingrix Vaccination

Chiwoo Oh, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, shared a post on LinkedIn about recent article by Fabiana Corsi-Zuelli et al, published in Nature Medicine, adding:

“The AS01B adjuvant (MPL plus QS 21) in Shingrix initially induces strong innate immune activation but subsequently causes long term reprogramming of the chromatin and transcriptional state of monocytes, reducing inflammatory cytokine responses such as IL6 upon subsequent TLR stimulation.

This may, in turn, decrease chronic vascular and atherosclerosis-associated inflammation, potentially lowering the risk of cardiovascular events.”
