Christoph B. Olivier: CYP2C19 Genotype, Platelet Reactivity and Risk Stratification in AF Patients Undergoing PCI
Christoph B. Olivier, Head of the Clinical Trials Unit, UHZ Freiburg, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in ASCPT:
”We are excited to share our latest publication: CYP2C19 Polymorphism and Platelet Aggregation-Associated Risks in Atrial Fibrillation Patients Undergoing PCI
Patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing PCI are among the highest-risk groups in interventional cardiology, facing competing ischemic and bleeding risks under complex antithrombotic therapy.
We assessed whether CYP2C19 genotype and platelet reactivity testing improve risk stratification in this vulnerable population.
Key findings:
- Poor/intermediate CYP2C19 metabolizer status might indicate lower bleeding risk
- High platelet reactivity identified patients at increased ischemic risk
- Low platelet reactivity was strongly associated with major bleeding
While larger studies are needed, such approaches may help improve risk stratification and guide individualized antithrombotic therapy.
A huge thank you to all the authors and colleagues for their incredible work on this project: Diona Gjermeni, Sofia Szabó, Viktoria Anfang, Hannah Vetter, Carina Juelch, Svenja Rademacher, Tian Li, Stefan Leggewie, Dr. David Hesselbarth, Daniel Duerschmied, Dietmar Trenk, Dirk Westermann.”
