Gerrit Herpertz: Acid Selection Can Alter Thrombelastometric Test Results
Gerrit Herpertz, Specialist in Anesthesiology at Klinikum Oldenburg AöR, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Thrombosis Journal, adding:
“New Open Access publication!
Our recently published paper investigates how different approaches to experimentally induce acidosis affect coagulation in ROTEM.
A key finding: it is not only the pH that matters. The type and concentration of the acid used can substantially influence coagulation and fibrinolysis.
This is particularly relevant because highly concentrated hydrochloric acid has frequently been used to create experimental acidosis models without questioning whether HCl itself may influence the results.
Our findings suggest that the choice of acidosis model deserves much more careful consideration.”
