Hamza A. Salim: CTA Collateral Impairment Score Enhances Stroke Prognosis Accuracy
Hamza A. Salim, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Research Collaborator at Johns Hopkins Radiology, has shared a post on X:
”Can a single, simple single-phase CTA score improve stroke outcome prediction?
Our new multicenter study (n=1080), now in JNIS, introduces the CTA Collateral Impairment Score (CCIS): a composite of arterial (Tan) + venous (COVES) collaterals from routine single-phase CTA.
Key findings:
– Favorable outcomes (mRS 0–2): 66% with CCIS 0 vs 17% with CCIS 2
– Mortality: 11% (CCIS 0) vs 36% (CCIS 2)
– CCIS outperformed ASPECTS & occlusion site, and closely matched NIHSS
Many thanks to Dr. Vivek Yedavall for his exceptional mentorship on this project!”
