Yara Dixon Shares Interesting Study on Heavy Menstrual Bleeding in Young Women
Yara Dixon, MD and PhD candidate in pediatric hematology and sociology at Erasmus MC, has shared a post on Linkedin:
“Excited to announce my first publication!
Our article, ‘Management of heavy menstrual bleeding in a multidisciplinary young women’s clinic: a Dutch experience’, is now published in RPTH Journal. |
Of course, there’s no better topic for my first publication.
We reviewed cases of young women with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) at a specialized Dutch clinic.
Key findings from our study:
- HMB is common and significantly impacts quality of life.
- ~20% had an undiagnosed bleeding disorder — most often von Willebrand disease.
- A combination of tranexamic acid and hormonal therapy proved to be most effective.
This milestone represents years of collaboration and dedication.
I’m grateful to Bart Kabboord for completing the dataset after my graduation, and to the HMB outpatient team at Erasmus MC, including C. Heleen van Ommen, Carla Groenestein‑Sondaal, Marieke Kruip, Carolien van der Velden-van ‘ and Greta Mulders. Lastly, a special thank you to my mentor C. Heleen van Ommen for her unwavering support since the start of my master’s thesis in 2020.
Here’s to many more! ”
