”Mayo Clinic Multi Site LVT Study Part 1:
DOAC Vs VKA for LVT.”
A Mayo Clinic multi-site study of 182 patients with left ventricular thrombus (LVT) found that direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) had similar effectiveness in preventing stroke or embolism and achieving thrombus resolution.
However, VKAs were linked to a higher risk of major bleeding.
The risk of embolization was greatest within the first eight weeks, suggesting that an initial DOAC loading dose may help reduce early events.
