Jim Hoffman: New Potential Predictive Biomarker for Lupus Nephritis
Jim Hoffman, Former Technical Advisor at Cygnus Technologies, LLC, shared Lupus Foundation of America’s post on LinkedIn about recent article by Eline Jana Arends et al., published in Lupus Science and Medicine, adding:
”I find it incomprehensible at this point, given all the evidence that NETs exacerbate flares, that they are not being routinely prognostically tracked in the clinic and treated to minimize the severity of Lupus flares that can accelerate irreversible tissue and organ damage, particularly as the severity of the condition worsens and becomes increasingly refractory to systemic drug treatments.

Abstract: NET load as a novel biomarker of autoimmune activity and flare risk in SLE
What better way to study the NET effect, not only as a predictive prognostic indicator but as a highly valued clinical theranostic/theragnostic marker for direct and potentially improved treatment using this extracorporeal NET removal therapy, which can most likely also be applied to the treatment of many other lupus-like autoimmune diseases/syndromes.”
