Re-exposing Patients to Heparin After Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia – JTH
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Elizabeth B. Caudill et al., adding:
”Heparin re-exposure in patients with a history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
This single-center retrospective study followed 35 patients with prior heparin-induced thrombocytopenia who were re-exposed to heparin products.
Only one (2.9 percent) developed recurrent HIT, with no associated thrombosis, bleeding, or in-hospital mortality. Median interval from HIT diagnosis to re-exposure was 8.1 years, suggesting re-exposure may be safe in remote HIT.”
