U-M Life Sciences Institute shared on LinkedIn:
”What can opossums teach us about clotting disorders?
Studying venom resistance in small-bodied opossums, scientists (including LSI researchers Matthew Holding and Laura Haynes) have discovered that differences between human and opossum versions of one blood-born protein enable the animals to combat the blood-clotting effects of snake venom.
Their findings offer new insights into the evolution of venom resistance and could have relevance for human coagulopathies.”
