Mehdi Mirsaeidi: Platelets and Thromboinflammation in COPD
Mehdi Mirsaeidi, Professor and Chief of Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin, shared a post on X:
“I’m pleased to share my newly published editorial, ‘Platelets Beyond Hemostasis: Thromboinflammation as a Target in COPD,’ in Annals of the American Thoracic Society.
This editorial builds on a question we explored more than 15 years ago in our CHEST study, which demonstrated that abnormal platelet counts were associated with mortality in patients hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia.
Together, these publications reflect the evolving recognition of platelets as active participants in pulmonary inflammation and clinical outcomes not only mediators of hemostasis.”
