Rachad Zayat: Acute PE Study Finds USAT Associated With Better In-Hospital Outcomes

Rachad Zayat, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at RWTH University Hospital Aachen, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Thoracic Disease, adding:

“Excited to share our latest publication!

Ultrasound-facilitated catheter-directed thrombolysis is associated with improved survival and reduces hospital stay in acute pulmonary embolism: a propensity score-matched analysis.

Published in Journal of Thoracic Disease.

Key Findings:

In a propensity score-matched analysis of 162 patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) treated within a multidisciplinary PERT team:

  • USAT (EKOS) was associated with significantly lower in-hospital mortality (2.5 percent versus 17.3 percent)
  • Shorter hospital stay (13 versus 17.5 days)
  • Fewer major bleeding events (1.2 percent versus 11.1 percent)

USAT appears to be a safe and effective option for intermediate-high and high-risk PE patients.”
