Rafail A. Kotronias: Improving the Detection and Management of Coronary Microvascular Obstruction
Rafail A. Kotronias, Clinical Trials Fellow at Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre (AMIIC), University of Oxford shared a post on LinkedIn about recent articles, adding:
”A particularly rewarding milestone from my University of Oxford DPhil
Two of my research outputs are referenced in the new European Society of Cardiology clinical consensus statement on coronary microvascular obstruction (MVO) ‘Pathophysiology, prevention, and management of coronary microvascular obstruction’
The two pieces represent different but complementary aspects of my DPhil work: A novel approach to evaluating MVO with photon-counting CT – developing new ways to reliably and rapidly characterise this important injury component.
A clinical device trial designed to address large thrombus burden; a contributor to MVO – translating our understanding of the problem into an intervention aimed at improving it.
A gratifying reminder of why we do clinical research: to move from understanding a problem, to measuring it better, to finding ways to improve outcomes for patients.
Very grateful to all the collaborators Siemens Healthineers, Medtronic, supervisors Charalambos Antoniades, Giovanni Luigi De Maria, Keith Channon, mentors and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust patients who made this work possible.”
