Ryan A. Metcalf: Turning Complex Transfusion Data Into Clear Clinical Insights
Ryan A. Metcalf, Section Chief of Transfusion Medicine, Associate Professor of Pathology at University of Utah School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Transfusion, adding:
“Just published: a new scoping review in Transfusion mapping the available evidence on the clinical use of cryoprecipitate and fibrinogen concentrate.
We used innovative UpSet figures to visualize randomized trials in the PICO question format.
This approach to visualizing evidence can be used by researchers conducting future systematic reviews or developing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
I feel very fortunate to work with such outstanding co-authors and colleagues.
A special thank you to Alexander Lex, Jack Wilburn, and Jake Wagoner from the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute at the University of Utah.
Collaborating across departments is one of my favorite aspects of research and I’m grateful to work with Alex, who pioneered the development of UpSet figures as a data visualization strategy.
