Solmaz Setayeshgar on Stroke Mortality in British Columbia

Solmaz Setayeshgar, Epidemiologist at BC Centre for Disease Control, shared on LinkedIn:

”I’m excited to share that our latest research article, “Trends and Drivers of Declining Stroke Mortality in British Columbia: A Population‑Based Study (2002–2022)”, has been published in The Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences!

In this population‑based study, we analyzed over 120,000 stroke events among adults in British Columbia from 2002 to 2022.

We found significant declines in stroke mortality, primarily driven by improvements in case fatality (survival after stroke), though disparities by sex, age, income, and geography remain.

A huge thank you to all co-authors for their collaboration throughout this journey, and to the BC Centre for Disease Control for providing the platform to carry out this project and publish it.

I also greatly appreciate our data partner at Population Data BC for their support.

If you work in stroke research, public health, or health services planning, I’d love to hear your thoughts on our findings!”
