Stephen James Ryan: We Validated the Norwegian Version of the Vision Impairment Screening Assessment in Stroke
Stephen James Ryan, Chief Medical Informatics Officer at Ostfold Hospital, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in European Stroke Journal, adding:
”The final article included in my doctoral thesis is now published.
It’s a bit unreal to write that sentence, especially as the thesis will be defended this coming Thursday, 4 June, in the large auditorium at Domus Medica.
This paper looks at vision after stroke.
Visual problems are common, but they are still too easily missed in acute stroke care.
In this study, we validated the Norwegian version of the Vision Impairment Screening Assessment (VISA), a structured bedside tool designed to help identify visual dysfunction early.
This has been the core of my PhD work: bringing vision more clearly into stroke care, from acute retinal ischemia to visual dysfunction after stroke.
A huge thank you to the patients, study nurses, orthoptists, stroke teams, supervisors and co-authors who made this work possible.”
