Research Tuesday from SVIN: IV Thrombolysis in Cervical Artery Dissection—A Safer Path Home?
Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN) recentlyy posted on X:
”Research Tuesday: Retrospective study by Shu and Shadi Yaghi et al found that use of IV thrombolysis in cervical artery dissection related stroke improved odds of home DC without increased risk of ICH. Skim With SVIN”
Read the article from Journal of the American Heart Association here.
In a compelling retrospective study Shu, Shadi Yaghi, and colleagues evaluated outcomes of intravenous thrombolysis in patients with stroke due to cervical artery dissection.
Their findings reveal that IV thrombolysis significantly improves the odds of discharge to home without an associated increase in the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).
These results offer important reassurance regarding the safety and functional benefit of thrombolysis in this unique stroke subtype—potentially reshaping decision-making in acute management.
