7 Tesla MRI Sheds Light on END Mechanisms in Symptomatic MCA Stenosis
International Journal of Stroke (IJS) posted on X:
”7T to investigate plaque features and LSA morphology in unexplained early neurological deterioration (END) in symptomatic MCA stenosis
END risk factors:
- Larger infarct size
- Higher LDL level
- Plaques located at openings of LSA on MCA”

A recent study using 7 Tesla (7T) MRI explored plaque characteristics and lenticulostriate artery (LSA) morphology in patients with symptomatic middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis and unexplained early neurological deterioration (END).
Findings identified key risk factors for END, including larger infarct size, elevated LDL levels, and plaques located at the openings of LSAs on the MCA wall.
These high-resolution insights highlight the potential of ultra-high-field imaging to improve risk stratification and guide targeted interventions in intracranial atherosclerotic disease.
