Fibrinogen-Guided Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage – Transfusion Medicine KMC Manipal
Transfusion Medicine KMC Manipal shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Ganesh Mohan et al, adding:
“Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) continues to claim approximately 70,000 maternal lives annually, especially in resource-limited settings.
In this study, we explored how goal-directed bleeding management (GDBM) can transform outcomes by prioritizing fibrinogen correction.
This study reflects challenges unique to LMIC settings-delayed referrals, geographic barriers, and limited access to fibrinogen concentrates.
Key Findings:
- Higher fibrinogen correction with GDBM (Increase of 74% vs 55%)
- 43% reduction in cryoprecipitate turnaround time
- Improved coagulopathy resolution (26.2% to 7.4%)”
