Cathy Bliem: Yesterday, I Made My 4th Plasma Donation of 2025…
Cathy Bliem, Director of the French Blood Establishment Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, shared on LinkedIn:
”Yesterday, I made my fourth plasma donation of 2025… which is not much considering the demand for plasma-derived medicines!
The demand for immunoglobulins is increasing by more than 5% per year, and it takes 300 donations to provide a year’s worth of treatment for a patient with an immune deficiency!
France imports this type of medicine because it does not produce enough .
The French industry has everything it needs to successfully increase its production:
EFS has a monopoly on collection in the ethical model so dear to the French, FFDSB – Fédération Française pour le Don de Sang Bénévole (French Federation for Voluntary Blood Donation) is working with us to promote blood and plasma donation throughout the country, and LFB manufactures these drugs from plasma collected in France.
EFS will collect just over 900,000 liters of plasma in 2015.
Our goal is to reach 1 million liters in 2026 and 1.4 million liters in 2028.
So don’t hesitate to come and donate at a donation center—you will receive a warm welcome!”
