William Tembo: Yesterday Was World Stroke Day, But the Message is One that Matters Every Day
William Tembo, Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota, shared on LinekdIn:
”Yesterday was World Stroke Day, but the message is one that matters every day.
What stayed with me most is that one in four people over 25 will have a hashtag#stroke in their lifetime.
That means every two seconds, somewhere in the world, a life changes.
This year’s theme, Every Minute Counts, reminds us that what happens in those first moments can make all the difference.
During a stroke, about 1.9 million brain cells are lost each minute.
When people act fast, lives are saved and recovery can be stronger.
Know the signs (FAST):
- Face drooping
- Arm weakness
- Speech difficulty
- Time to get medical help
Across the world, many people who reach the hospital in time receive thrombolysis or thrombectomy.
These treatments can reopen blocked vessels, restore blood flow, and help people recover much better if stroke is recognized early and help is sought right away.
Take part in the Spot Stroke interactive quiz and get to know the signs of stroke.
Help spread the word by sharing your digital certificate on social media.
Try it here.
You can also visit World Stroke Organization to learn more about their work and ongoing global campaigns.
It is simple, interactive, and could one day help you save a life.
Because Time Is Brain.
It is someone you love.”
