“Two weeks after a massive transfusion protocol, a patient developed severe thrombocytopenia — counts dropping with every platelet unit we gave. What looked like refractoriness turned out to be something rarer: post-transfusion purpura (PTP) caused by an anti-HPA-1b antibody.
In my latest post on Blood, Bytes, and Beyond, I unpack what PTP is, why it happens, and how treatments like IVIG (not platelets!) can turn the tide.”
