Liyew Mekonen: Combined Oral Contraceptives Affect Coagulation Profiles

”Our study found that Combined Oral Contraceptive (COC) users had significantly shorter Prothrombin Time (PT) and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) values, along with higher platelet counts, indicating an increased tendency toward blood clotting. Based on this finding, policymakers should promote safer contraceptive alternatives—such as progestin-only or non-hormonal methods—for women with coagulation risk factors like smoking, obesity, or prolonged immobilization.”
