Francine Freitas Fernandes, Founder and Medical Director of GEUS Clinic, shared on LinkedIn:
”Transvaginal ultrasonography: a powerful tool for evaluating the internal and external iliac veins.
This video highlights post-thrombotic changes in the left iliac veins, seen as intraluminal fibrous bands, in a young nulliparous patient with left common iliac vein compression who was using oral contraceptives at the time of thrombosis.
In this case, transabdominal ultrasound was limited by body habitus and bowel gas.
The transvaginal approach allowed rapid, comprehensive assessment with excellent image quality.
When feasible, transvaginal ultrasonography should be part of routine vascular ultrasound practice in patients with suspected pelvic venous.
