Ed Beveridge Shares A New Guide on VTE Prophylaxis in Psychiatric Illness
Ed Beveridge, Clinical Director at North London NHS Foundation Trust, shared on LinkedIn:
”NEW GUIDELINE ALERT
Patients in mental health inpatient settings can be at significant risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolus (PE) are potential causes of avoidable harm and even death.
Standard risk assessments recommended by national guidance do not perform well in our settings – until now.
Very excited to see this new guidance, evidence based and designed specifically for our patients, published this week.
It has the potential to make real-life improvements in outcomes for our patients – I hope it will become standard as part of our physical health screening processes in mental health settings.
Congratulations to the authors on this very imporatant internationall collaboration Audrey Purcell, Arnav Agarwal, Josie Jenkinson and others.”
