Mary Cushman: Association of Atrial Fibrillation with Risk of Incident Cognitive Impairment
Mary Cushman, University Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair at the University of Vermont, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:
“Pleased to share my postdoc Vinh Le, MD’s first 1st author publication!
Now out in The American Journal of Cardiology! He reports the association of atrial fibrillation with risk of incident cognitive impairment in the 30,000-person REGARDS study!
Findings were somewhat surprising. AF was associated with ICI only in people with pre-baseline stroke, not otherwise. Inflammation biomarkers modestly attenuated this association, suggesting important links between cardiovascular and brain health.
Congratulations Dr. Le!”
