Mahnoor Shah, Pharmacy Intern at DVAGO Pharmacy and Wellness Experts, shared on LinkedIn:
”Causes of Anemia – A Quick Overview!
Anemia can arise from five major mechanisms, each with specific triggers:
- Decreased RBC Production: iron deficiency, vitamin B12/folate lack, aplastic anemia, or chronic kidney disease.
- Increased RBC Destruction (Hemolysis): hemolytic anemia, sickle cell disease, G6PD deficiency, thalassemia.
- Acute or Chronic Blood Loss: GI bleeding, menorrhagia, trauma, or parasitic infections like hookworm.
- Anemia of Chronic Disease: chronic infections, autoimmune disorders, malignancy, or inflammation.
- Bone Marrow Disorders: leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, marrow infiltration, or multiple myeloma.
Understanding these pathways helps in early diagnosis and targeted treatment.”
