Abdul Mannan: 216 Free Flashcards for One of the Toughest Chapters in Haematology
Abdul Mannan, Consultant Haematologist, Director Haemophilia Centre, Haematology Lab Lead at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board shared a post on LinkedIn:
”216 flashcards. One of the toughest chapters in haematology. Free for everyone.
Inherited bone marrow failure syndromes give trainees nightmares during exams.
Fanconi anaemia alone has 22 complementation groups. Dyskeratosis congenita has X-linked, autosomal dominant, AND recessive forms. Diamond-Blackfan anaemia involves ribosomal protein mutations you’ve probably never heard of.
I get it. It’s a lot.
So I made something to help.
What’s inside these 216 flashcards:
- Fanconi Anaemia: genetics, FA-BRCA pathway, treatment
- Dyskeratosis Congenita: telomere biology, clinical triad, gene mutations
- Diamond-Blackfan Anaemia: ribosomal proteins, steroid response
- Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome: SBDS gene, pancreatic features
- Congenital Amegakaryocytic Thrombocytopenia: MPL mutations
- Congenital Neutropenias: ELANE mutations, G-CSF considerations
- Congenital Dyserythropoietic Anaemia: Types I, II, and III
All based on Chapter 30 from Hoffbrand’s Postgraduate Haematology, 8th Edition.

Pass it on. Share it with your study group. Let’s make these tricky syndromes a bit less intimidating.
Which inherited BMF syndrome do you find hardest to remember?”
