Armando Ramirez։ Key Takeaways from NLA’s Updated Clinical Guidance on Familial Hypercholesterolemia
Armando Ramirez, US Sales and Business Development Director at GENinCode Predictive Genetics, shared a National Lipid Association post on LinkedIn, adding:
”This is huge…
Here are some of my takeaways:
- Earlier identification through universal pediatric screening, opportunistic adult screening, and systematic cascade testing of families – this is a positive step forward.
- Genetic testing as a powerful complement to clinical diagnosis and family screening (not a barrier to treatment) – as a speciality, we need to be screening more.
- More aggressive LDL-C targets (often <70 mg/dL for primary prevention, <55 mg/dL for secondary prevention) – this will lead to better outcomes.
FH is one of the most preventable causes of premature heart disease. I feel this update moves us closer to proactive, precision-driven, family-centered prevention.”
