Mattia Galli: Waiting for “Better Evidence” May Delay Better Treatment for Patients
Mattia Galli, Assistant Professor at Sapienza University of Rome, Associate Editor of European Heart Journal, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
”Of the more than 50 study-level meta-analyses I have published, can you guess how many have been proven wrong or inaccurate by subsequent RCTs or IPD meta-analyses?
NONE.
I could provide dozens of examples, but the most emblematic is our meta-analysis published in The Lancet in 2021.
Five years later, we published an IPD meta-analysis demonstrating EXACTLY the same results.
The figures were even presented in the same format — deliberately so (see below).
That is five years spent waiting for ‘better evidence.’ Five years during which patients could have received better treatment.
Now that guidelines will finally need to align with these findings, I hope this case might inspire future guideline committees to reflect.”
