Rafael Demarchi Malgor: New Clinical Practice Guideline on Upper Extremity Deep Venous Thrombosis

Rafael Demarchi Malgor, Professor of Surgery and Vascular Surgery fellowship and residency Program Director at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:

“A truly major effort by the American Venous Forum (AVF) Guidelines Committee just came to fruition, our Clinical Practice Guideline on the care of patients with Upper Extremity Deep Venous Thrombosis is now accepted and moving toward publication in JVS Venous and Lymphatic Disorders.

This was a full team sport, months of systematic review, evidence synthesis, writing, rewriting, debate, and consensus building to deliver practical, evidence based recommendations that we hope will help standardize care and improve outcomes.

Sincere thanks to my outstanding co authors, Yana Etkin, Nicolas J. Mouawad, Linda Le, Leo Sullivan, Eleftherios Xenos, Limael E. Rodriguez, Chandu Vemuri, Eri Fukaya, Brajesh Lal, Pedro J. Furtado Neves, Faisal Aziz, Mikel Sadek, Nathan Tomita, Alessandra Puggioni.

Also, many thanks to the AVF leadership under Ruth L. Bush, Jacobowitz Glenn, Joe Rafetto as well as to the AVF staff (John Forbes and team) for their steady support and coordination throughout.

Much work still remains, there are important evidence gaps and unanswered questions that should drive the next wave of high quality studies in UEDVT.
