“Knowledge alone rarely changes donor behaviour but trust and lived experience do.
Pleased to share my Letter to the Editor in Transfusion Medicine Reviews, reflecting on global evidence that donor trust in blood services and prior experience with iron supplementation outweigh knowledge alone in driving real-world acceptance.
I have personally observed numerous prospective donors who presented for blood donation but were deferred due to low hemoglobin levels.
Such deferrals often result in significant demotivation, which may adversely impact their willingness to return for future donations.
A timely call to move from education-centric approaches toward trust-centred, experience-informed donor engagement.”
