Mud Alvi: The Interaction Between LV Injury and Cryptogenic Stroke
Mud Alvi, Professor and Vice Chair of Neurology at West Virginia University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
“I’m proud to share a recent publication from a truly outstanding multicenter collaboration in American Heart Association Stroke journal.
This project brought together investigators across 27 U.S. sites including WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute as part of the Cardiac Abnormalities in Stroke Prevention and Recurrence (CASPR) cohort.
This effort was led by Jim Siegler and Richa Sharma. It was a privilege to work alongside them in advancing secondary stroke prevention through collaboration.
Our study examined the interaction between left ventricular (LV) injury and cryptogenic stroke.
We found a striking treatment interaction: among patients with LV injury, anticoagulation was associated with substantially lower risk of recurrent stroke, major bleeding, or death — a pattern not seen in those without LV injury.
These findings should lead to next generation of randomized trials.
