Gayatri Digambar: Silent Plaque Rupture – The Hidden Trigger Behind Acute MI

Gayatri Digambar, B.Pharm Finalist and Registered Pharmacist, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Silent Plaque Rupture: The Hidden Trigger Behind Acute MI

Background
Many patients presenting with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) may have experienced silent plaque rupture days or even weeks earlier without noticeable symptoms.

Key Insights from Hemostasis & Thrombosis Research

  • Subclinical plaque rupture can initiate localized thrombus formation
  • Platelet activation plays a critical role in early clot development
  • Micro-thrombi may intermittently form and dissolve before a major cardiac event occurs

Clinical Implication

Early detection of vulnerable plaques and improved understanding of platelet-driven thrombosis could significantly help prevent catastrophic cardiovascular events.

Future Perspective

As research evolves, integrating advanced imaging, circulating biomarkers, and platelet function studies may enhance early risk stratification in patients at risk of AMI.

Discussion Point

What are your thoughts on identifying pre-rupture plaque instability before major thrombotic events occur?”
